For an artist who only released four proper albums in a 15-year career, it's astounding to recall how many hits Whitney Houston was able to achieve. The two CDs on The Greatest Hits track Houston's rise from mid-'80s Top 40 balladeer to standard-setting diva. Disc 1, Cool Down, runs chronologically through Houston's down-tempo love songs, from "The Greatest Love of All" and "I Will Always Love You" to the cleverly conceived new duet with Deborah Cox, "Same Script, Different Cast." She's also showcased as the remixee of choice for DJs on the second disc, Throw Down, which serves as the antidote to the lovesick first disc. Calling in marquee mixmasters, Houston's old-shoe tunes get a new millennium polish. "My Love Is Your Love," reinterpreted by Jonathan Peters, captures the versatility of Houston's songs by making the downbeats danceable without going totally Euro-cheese. In contrast, Junior Vasquez's remix of 1985's "How Will I Know" pokes fun at the song's '80s fluffiness by layering in bells, lasers effects, and echoes on top of Whitney's enthusiastic vocals. --Heidi ShermanAtists: Whitney Houston

Filmed by a four month-old MTV and just days into the band's first number one album Escape, Journey is at their peak. The recent addition of FM-friendly keyboardist/co-songwriter Jonathan Cain (fresh from the Babys) proved to be the final addition that the constantly changing concept band would need to crash both radio and retail charts. The concert DVD shows rows of fans in the same red-sleeved concert jerseys getting their fill of the hits "Don't Stop Believin'," "Stone in Love," "Who's Crying Now," "Open Arms," "Anyway You Want It," "Wheel In The Sky," and "Lights." Stage-wise, there is very little in terms of visual style with the exception of a few rows of gel lights to move with the music and a pair of spotlights that move with unlikely idols Steve Perry and Neal Schon. In this day and age of MTV Video Music Awards and TRL it is difficult to understand how a band of thirty-somethings in hiked-up blue jeans easily delivered the ballads to break young girls' hearts and the glass-pack rock to fuel young boys' Firebirds. The second DVD consists of upbeat interviews from the same period, a cheap trinket slideshow, and an Escape promo reel from back when those sorts of things were commonplace on networks. The interviews capture an optimistic band in the most favorable light they'd ever been in or ever would be in again. If you're looking for the dirty laundry drama on the fantastic ups and downs in the story of Journey you'll have to look elsewhere. This one is a collector's item of simpler times--a moment when the world of Journey was magic and everything was all right for those who thought music television was an odd concept. --Peter Hilgendorf

At the time of its release, this was the watershed for soundtracks, selling a kazillion copies. It documents Whitney Houston's character in the Kevin Costner movie, which required Houston to play only herself (although one hopes she wouldn't end up with someone as smarmy as Costner). The album is as much a testament to the production of Babyface who, through the mid-1990s, actually was the mainstream of contemporary hit music. Houston's singing is much better than her acting, and almost every song enjoyed a long tenure at the top of all the charts. Along with "I Will Always Love You" and five other Houston songs, the soundtrack also features Lisa Stansfield, Kenny G with Aaron Neville, and Joe Cocker with Sass Jordan. --Scott WilsonAudio CD: Soundtrack

"Do you want to get toned to the bone?" shouts Richard Simmons. "Yes!" his class yells back. This half-hour video comes with a "Tonin' Cord," rubber tubing with handles, used for muscle strengthening in place of weights. First Simmons gives instruction for using the tubing correctly and effectively. Then he warms up his class, who happen to be instructors from his exercise studio, Slimmons. (It's great to see fit instructors that aren't all slender.) The toning class uses the tubing to create resistance to work the legs, chest, arms, shoulders, and back. The exercises are varied and effective (sometimes enabling you to work two muscle groups at once), and the tubing gives enough resistance to make the workout challenging. This is a different style than the Sweatin' to the Oldies series--no live band or oldies music, a small class of instructors, more instruction of technique, and much better cueing. Richard shines as an instructor here. The class ends with a set for the abdominals (without the tubing) and a relaxing stretch. If you want to strengthen without free weights and with a warm, motivating instructor, Richard's your man. --Joan Price VHS Tape: Color, NTSC

Ah, there's nothing quite like settling in and getting cozy with a complicated British country-estate murder. In the BBC adaptation of Dorothy Sayers's detective novel, which also aired on PBS, the brilliant Lord Peter Wimsey brings his investigative talents to use close to home. His future brother-in-law is slain during a country retreat, and while there seems to be no shortage of possible suspects, the investigation quickly centers on Wimsey's brother Gerald, the Duke of Windsor. The five-tape adaptation takes its delicious time in delving deeper into the psyche of the unhappy circle around the deceased, as Wimsey tries to avert a full trial of a peer of the realm. Ian Carmichael shines as Wimsey, one of English detective fiction's most memorable heroes--more nimble than Miss Marple, more willful than Poirot, more upbeat than Adam Dalgliesh. All mystery fans need for a lovely and satisfying afternoon is this series and a couple of strong pots of tea. --Anne HurleyDirector: Hugh David

This 1992 crowd pleaser made almost as much money for Whitney Houston as its chart-busting soundtrack. A high-wattage star vehicle as only Hollywood can make, The Bodyguard stars Houston as a pop-music diva (now there's a stretch) and Kevin Costner as the stern bodyguard who is assigned to protect her after the singer receives some nasty death threats. Pop star and bodyguard don't hit it off at first, but they wear down each others' defenses, and before long Houston is baring her tonsils with a rousing rendition of the Dolly Parton chestnut "I Will Always Love You." The film, written by Lawrence Kasden, was originally intended for Steve McQueen, but the script languished for years before Houston took an interest in the project. A proposed sequel would potentially have starred Costner and Princess Diana, until Diana's tragic death precluded that possibility. --Jeff Shannon Director: Mick Jackson

Peptizyde (pronounced "Pep-ta-zyde") is a combination of three different proteolytic enzymes isolated from plant sources. Each enzyme has a unique set of peptide bonds it prefers to break, so the combination of these enzymes allows much more efficient means of quickly and thoroughly breaking down (hydrolyzing) proteins to its smaller components. The enzymes in Peptizyde work only on food proteins, not carbohydrates, fats, or other compounds, and do not interfere with medications or other supplements (unless they are also proteins, which is extremely unlikely). Peptizyde may be used in combination with other enzyme products. Peptizyde supplements the "normal" hydrolysis of casein, gluten, and other food proteins such that the exorphin peptides are not produced because the specific cleavage pattern to produce these peptides is altered. Peptizyde is different from other enzyme products in that it contains only those enzymes needed for protein hydrolysis. No other enzymes have been added. This allows one to customize enzyme supplementation to their specific dietary needs. Another advantage to this approach is that less potential exists for intolerance reactions due to additional and perhaps unnecessary enzyme proteins. Also, by using only three enzyme blends in Peptizyde, larger amounts of each enzyme can be added per capsule, insuring that more hydrolysis of food protein can take place in the short time that food is in the stomach.Health and Beauty: Digestive Support, Digests Protein
